Read More	Highland Recorder December 10, 1937 Henry Brown Nicholas died at his home in Crabbottom, Thursday, Dec. 2, 1937 at 11 o'clock, aged eighty four years, one month, and three days. He was a son of Solomon and Elizabeth Teter Nicholas, and a descended in a long family line going back to the very earliest pioneer days in the settling of this section mainly by way of the South Branch Valley. The early progenitor of the family first secured a tract of land near the Forks of Water and soon afterwards the tracts in Crabbottom Valley where the family permanently located and the name perpetuated for around one hundred and seventy five years. He was reared and spent practically all of his long span of life in the community in which he was born. For many years he was a contractor in carpentry and many dwellings and other building in this and other sections were erected under his supervision. On March 7, 1878 he was united in marriage to Martha Virginia Harold who preceded him in death more than fifteen years ago. To this union were born five children, three of whom survive; namely, I.W. Nicholas and Mrs. James B. Wimer of Crabbottom, and Mrs. Charles Hildebrand of Staunton. Two sons died in infancy. His second marriage on Jan. 14, 1925 was to Mrs. Gertrude Alstock, of Clifton Forge, who survives. Other survivors include one brother and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Fleisher, and Mrs. William Fleisher. Two brothers George A. Nicholas of Crabbottom and Ambe Nicholas of Illinois preceded him in death by some years. Seven grand children and five great grand children also survive. The funeral services were conducted from the Central Methodist Church, in which the deceased had long held membership, Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock with Rev. L.H. Greenwood in charge assisted by the Rev. A.E. Johnson. Burial was in the Wimer Cemetery. Highland Recorder December 17, 1937 Mrs. H.B. Nicholas a wonderful serenading Thursday night with bells and horns, horse fiddles and shot guns with other musical instruments.
