Description	:	Killed by a train when trying to cross the tracks. Silver Creek was horrified Tuesday about four o'clock when a fast mail train from the west came whistling through the village. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Charlton, reports the Silver Creek correspondent of the Central City Nonpereil, was crossing the track on the sidewalk and before he had time to collect his thoughts he was struck by the train and hurled about and struck the depot with great force and was instantly killed. The little son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Charlton, reports the Silver Creek correspondent of the Central City Nonpereil, was crossing the track on the sidewalk and before he had time to collect his thoughts he was struck by the train and hurled about and struck the depot with great force and was instantly killed. The child was between seven and eight years old and an only son. It was not a child who was always on the streets, but one that was always at home unless sent. His mother had sent him after some meat for supper, as his father was working in the meat market. He had got the meat and started home with his big cap pulled down over his ears and evidently did not see or hear the train. The parents are almost frantic with grief. Coroner Kombrink was telegraphed to and arrived on No. 22 in the evening and held an inquest finding the child killed by train. It is a very sad affair. The grief-stricken parents have the sympathy of all the community. Columbus Journal, January 24, 1900 CHARLTON--Tuesday of last week Henry Charlton, eight-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Allen Charlton of Silver Creek, attempted to cross the railroad track in front of an approaching train and was thrown by the engine about seventy-five feet, the body striking the depot, causing instantaneous death.
