Mr. Hamers was born at Hancock, Minn., Dec. 26, 1898, and moved to the Anamoose-Drake area with his parents when he was 5. He moved to Minot 44 years ago. Mr. Hancock (note: This is how he is referred to in the remainder of the obituary) was a retired freight checker for the Great Northern Railway, where he had been employed for 38 years. During World War II, he served with the Army Corps of Engineers in the Pacific Theater. On Feb. 23, 1923, he married Emily Huebschwerlen at Balta. Mr. Hancock belonged to the Little Flower Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks. Surviving are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. G. F. (Veronica) Callahan, Minot; one son, Jack of Phoenix; five sisters, Mrs. R. E. Smith, Minot, Mrs. Mayme Jenkins, Great Fall, Mont., Mrs. Lillian Gallagher, Billings, Mont., Mrs. Hazel Olson, Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Genevieve Mann, Casper, Wyo.; two brothers, Matt of Spokane, Wash., and Edgar of Scobey, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
