He grew to manhood in his native county, and when the war between the States broke out, in 1861, volunteered as a soldier in the Confederate army, serving in Company H, 22nd Regiment, Virginia Infantry, Echols Brigade. About the close of the war he married Miss Virginia Ford, of Lewisburg, daughter of the late David J Ford, and to this union ten children were born, nine of whom are living and were present at the funeral - Misses Annie, Mary Lou and Nannie Wheeler, William, Tobe and Warwick Cabell, all of Dry Creek, James R, of Parkersburg, for the last sixteen years an engineer on the B & O, Leslie, of Clifton Forge, and Moorman Cabell, of Huntington, both of whom have been for some years in the service of the C & O, and all are very capable men. For many years after the war Mr Cabell conducted the Lewisburg Hotel here, first as a partner with his brother-in-law, James M Nickell, then as a partner with the late Capt James H Vandiyer, and afterwards as sole proprietor. The last fifteen or twenty years of his life were spent in the hotel business in Dry Creek. Mr Cabell was widely known throughout this part of the State as a popular and most accommodating host, and many are the friends who will read with sorrow this notice of his death. Rev M L Lacy, D D, conducted the funeral service at the home last Friday afternoon, after which the members of the Masonic Lodge at Dry Creek, of which Mr Cabell was a member, took charge of the body, escorted it to Lewisburg and laid it to rest in our town cemetery. Three of Mr Cabell's brothers, Al, Chas. and Hewitt, all of Kanahwa, were here to attend the funeral. Mr Cabell had suffered for some years with a kidney trouble, and this was no doubt the cause of his death. - Greenbrier Independent Contributor: Anonymous (48825891) Burial plot is Section B-3.
