Schoenenberger, son of Nicholas and Louisa Schoenenberger, was born in Madison county, Iowa, December 11th, 1865. His boyhood was spent in Walnut township where his great strength, love of the outdoors, his love for horses, and his friendly spirit won for him many friends. He was married to Mary Etta Callison, December 23rd, 1888. To this union five children were born, Lee who died in infancy, Mrs. Ruth Spellman and Mrs. Louise Lyons of Chicago, Mrs. Beatrice Creger of Winterset, and son Joe, of Creston. After their marriage, they lived four years near Lorimor and four years on a farm in Monroe township. For the past 28 years they have made their home in Winterset. For many years he was in the meat market and cattle business and in the last few years has been the largest individual distributor of gasoline and motor oils in the county. His magnetic personality and kindness of heart won for him the warm friendship of old and young, rich and poor – everyone knew Henry and loved him. His failing health in the last few months has been a source of uneasiness to his family and friends but no one realized the seriousness of his condition. He passed away in his home on June 10th, 1926, aged 60 years, 5 months and 29 days. He leaves besides his wife and children, one brother, Ed of Walnut township, and three sisters, Mrs. Theresa Boling of Lorimor, Mrs. Geo. Acker and Mrs. W. L. Wilson of Des Moines, and many other relatives and a multitude of friends. Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Le Roy C. Cooley, pastor of the First Presbyterian church. Interment was made in the Lorimor cemetery.
