OBITUARY: Ed Brandt Henry Edward Brandt, the son of Henry and Katie (Minges) Brandt, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on July 9, 1892, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 27, 1987, at the age of 94 years, 8 months, and 18 days. They lived northeast of Giltner, and in 1903, they moved to a farm northwest of Aurora. He attended District 72 and 4 schools, and was a 1910 graduate of Aurora Business College. He also attended York College for a term. He served in the U.S. Army in 1918 during World War I. He taught in rural Hamilton County schools for 10 years and farmed northwest of Aurora from 1920 to 1951. He was united in marriage to Ollie Frances Cox on December 29, 1928. She preceded him in death on December 30, 1932. On February 7, 1953, he married Gladys Anderson Aden at Aurora. They made their home in Aurora. He was elected Hamilton County assessor in November of 1950, and served four terms, retiring in 1967. He was assistant county assessor through 1970. Ed was a bugler with the Aurora Drum Corps, and was judged the best bugler in the state, at the annual solo contest held in connection with the American Legion Convention in Omaha. He had been a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church since 1919, and was also a member of the American Legion Veterans of World War I, and the Modern Woodman of America. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Gladys; one son Robert E. Brandt of Churchville, Maryland; a sister, Gladys Jacobs of Aurora; two granddaughters, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many friends.
