Description	:	Henry Franklin Lamb was the son of Benjamin Lamb and Charlotte "Lottie" Atkins. On May 31, 1858 he married Mary Margaret Wilson. They lived in Pleasant Township, Union County, Iowa for twenty years on a farm they had bought. Here seven of their children were born. On May 31, 1858 he married Mary Margaret Wilson. They lived in Pleasant Township, Union County, Iowa for twenty years on a farm they had bought. Here seven of their children were born. He served in the U.S. Army from November 1861 until December 1864. Henry F. Lamb enlisted in the Union Army in the Civil War between the states on November 14, 1861, at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His service was in Company "H", Fifth Regiment, Kansas Volunteers Cavalry. He was 28 years old when he enlisted. He had the rank of private. He was on active duty except while in hospital. In July-August, 1863, in Army Hospital, Helena, Arkansas. September-October 1863 in Army Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. November -December 1863 in Army Hospital, Keokuk, Iowa. He was mustered out on Dec. 8th, 1864 at Forth Leavenworth, Kansas. Was in service three years and one month. September 7, 1883 he was given pension of fourteen dollars per month. August 27, 1895 he was given increase in his pension, amount unknown. January 4, 1915 Mary M. Lamb was given widows pension of thirty dollars per month. Henry F. Lamb was in many hard fought battles, but was not wounded. While serving in Arkansas his health was not good so he was in hospital but he returned to active duty and served until his discharge. Fifth Kansas Volunteers Calvary mustered in July 1861, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, by Lieutenant Robinett. Part of battles fought in 1861, Fort Scott, Morristown, Kansas and Osceola, Springfield, Harrison, Missouri. In winter of 1862 they were at Camp Denver, Kansas. Battles fought in 1862 included Carthage, Houston, Rolla, Missouri, Salem, Helena, Little Rock, St. Charles, Arkansas. Some battles fought in 1863: Helena, Tulip, Taylor Creek, Little Rock, Pine Bluff, Arkansas. All hard battles with loss of many men. Battles fought in 1864: Branchville, Mt. Elbe, Marks, Miller, Warren Crossing and others in Arkansas. They were in many smaller battles. Took many prisioners and supplies. They had fought against many larger forces of Texas Calvary and other Rebel Armies. They were regarded as second to no other Kansas Regiment for bravery. They were on partol duty until mustered out in December 1864 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. In October 1878 they moved to Lyon County, Kansas. This time they traveled with a covered wagon and horses. In Lyon Co., KS. they first settled on farm one mile north of Santa Fe Trail. They sold their farm and moved southeast of Americus, Ks. They later bought a farm in the Frost District of Allen Creek. This they improved by building house and barn and other buildings. They set out an orchard and sowed alfalfa. Here they raised wheat, corn and oats. Harvested Alfalfa hay to feed cattle and horses. They farmed here with help of their children until march 1905 when they retired and moved to Americus, Kansas, where they bought property. The farm was sold to their daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Frost, who lived here and raised their family. In June 1950, Arthur Frost died and Lottie Lamb Frost moved to Emporia, Kansas. Henry and Mary Lamb lived in Americus, Kansas, until the death of Henry Lamb, Dec. 15, 1914. Mary Lamb lived in Americus and with her children until her death Sep. 5, 1924. They are buried in Americus Cemetery east of Americus, Lyon Co., Kansas.
