Read More	Source: The Victor Record 7/23/1975 Services For Henry Smith, Jr. Tuesday, July 22 The departed, Henry Frederich Smith, Jr., son of Henry and Minnie Smith, was born the 4th of March, 1912 in Lincoln township, Iowa county. He passed away suddenly at his home in Victor on July 19 at the age of 63. The departed was received into God's kingdom of grace through the washing of Holy Baptism on March 19, 1912 by Rev. Kitzmann, Victor. His vows in confirmation of his Christian faith were spoken on March 28, 1926 at st. John's Lutheran church, Lincoln township before Rev. Fr. Kreutz, Sr. The sacred words of blessing spoken over him at this time were from Col. 3:17. The departed received his education in the St. John's Lutheran School. For the past 39 years he had been a faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church of Victor. The departed farmed all his life in Iowa and Poweshiek counties. He was known to his friends and neighbors as Hiennie Smith. He was untied in Holy Wedlock with Ione Johnson on Feb. 27, 1937 at Cedar Rapids by Rev. P. L. Bornhoeft of Trinity Lutheran church. This union was blessed with 38 years of life together. To this union two children were born of whom both survive. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Walter. The departed leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Ione; his daughter, Cheryl (Mrs. William) Comerford of Iowa City; his son, Dan Smith of Newton; two granddaughters Tracy and Shari Smith of Newton; one brother, William Smith of Victor; two sisters, Mrs. Jennie (Arnold) Steffen of Victor; Mrs. Dorothy (Alfred) Gorsh of Williamsburg; and many friends and relatives. Funeral services were held at St. James Lutheran church, Victor, Tuesday, July 22, at 10 a.m. with Pastor Lenser officiating. Organist for the funeral service was Jane McHarg. Pallbearers were Leonard Cline, Darrell Cordes, Rene Seye, Delmar Bayer, Pierce Comerford and Roy Merck. Flowers were cared for by Mrs. and Mrs. Ralph Kruse, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Merck and Mrs. Rene Seye. Funeral arrangements were taken care of by McAninch Funeral home. The departed earthly remains were intered in the Victor cemetery after the services.
