Earl Moermond officiating. Mrs. Smithh died Thursday, April 1, 1982, at University hospitals, Iowa City, following a long illness. Burial was in the International Order of Odd Fellows cemetery, Victor. Jennie Minnie Smith was born July 14, 1914, in Lincoln Township, Iowa county, the daughter of Henry and Minnie Schmidt Smith. She was baptized Aug. 23, 1914, at St. John's Lutheran church and confirmed April 1, 1928 at St. John's. Her confirmation text was John 15:5. She attended St. John's parochial school and grew up in Lincoln township. On Jan. 16, 1935, she and Arnold Steffen were married at St. John's Lutheran church by the Rev. R. P. Young. The couple farmed in Iowa county until 1960 when they moved into Victor. He died in April 1968. Mrs. Steffen was a member of St. James Lutheran church and Ladies Aid. She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia (Mrs. Marvin) Root, Hartwick; and Arlene (Mrs. William) Nagel, Malcom; five grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. Alfred) Gorsch, Williamsburg; and a brother, William Smith, Victor.
