Description	:	Henry Fredrick, son of Fredrick and Barbara Dieffenbach was born on the 16th day of November, 1862, at Pulaski, Iowa, and departed this life for his Home Eternal in heaven on the 9th day of September, 1940, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 24 days. Read More	Henry Fredrick, son of Fredrick and Barbara Dieffenbach was born on the 16th day of November, 1862, at Pulaski, Iowa, and departed this life for his Home Eternal in heaven on the 9th day of September, 1940, at the age of 77 years, 9 months and 24 days. At a very early age his father was taken from him, leaving his widowed mother with four children; although but a lad of eight years he felt the responsibility as the oldest of the family and did much to support his mother, brother and two sisters. He came to Kansas with his mother and family, settling in McPherson County, near Inman, which was his home until the fall of 1888 when he moved to Ransom, Ness County, Kansas, where he bought the home then owned by his step-father and mother which has been his home for the past 52 years. On the 26th day of November, 1893, he was united in marriage to Miss Ella Chapman, who preceded him in death only just last December. His home was gladdened by the birth of two sons and a daughter, the little daughter preceding her parents to the Glory World in infancy. His great joy was found in serving those whom he dearly loved seeking always to provide for the comfort and happiness even to the seclusion of his own health and strength. He was a tireless worker, yet always found time for worship of his Best Friend and Saviour and for the service of the Church of His Choice. Very early in life he gave himself to his Christ and since has been a faithful and loyal follower and servant of his Lord. He transferred his membership by letter to the Ransom Methodist Church in March of 1894, and for the past 46 years has been a faithful member of the same. He played a very active part in the organization and building of the first Methodist Church here in Ransom in the year of 1897, and volunteered and became the first janitor, work which he did well and faithfully without remuneration for a number of years. Even in the busy season on the farm, when he had others helping him with the farm work, he would take Saturday afternoon off and come to town to clean the church that it might be ready for Sunday’s Worship. He served for some time as Sunday school superintendent and was also one of the outstanding primary teachers in the same Sunday school. Many a man dating his interest in the church back to those teaching day of “Uncle Henry” as they affectionately called him. He was a great believer in punctuality and dependability and set an example in this for others that they might follow. In Church attendance he was most faithful and if the roads were blocked against vehicles he would make his way to the church house either on horseback or afoot. Of such we can only say, “well done, thou good and faithful servant, enter into the joy of thy Lord.” He leaves to mourn his going, but not as those who have no hope, two sons, Fred, of Chicago, Illinois and Jess, of Ransom, Kansas; one brother, Will, of Denver, Colo., one sister, Mrs. E.P. Shellenberger of Van Nuys, Calif., one grandson, Gillen Dieffenbach, of Zion City, Illinois, two granddaughters, Verla Jean Dieffenbach, of the home and Mrs. Kathleen Parsell, of Houston, Texas; nephews and nieces and a host of neighbors and friends who will greatly miss him. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon from the Ransom Methodist Church with Rev. L.R. Fish in charge of the services assisted by Rev. Abraham Albrecht, of the Mennonite Church. Music was furnished by a double mixed quartette composed of Mrs. F.T. McNinch, Mrs. W.F. Baer, Mrs. L.R. Fish, Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Dubbs, R.L. Sargent, H.C. Anderson and Ward Scott accompanied by Miss Lila McNinch at the piano. They sang, “O, That Will Be Glory,” “How Can I Be Lonely” and “Jesus Never Fails”. Honorary pallbearers were E.A. Jesse, L.B. Dubbs, A.C. Tilley, Peter Horchem, D.M. Sipe and C.C. Jarvis. Active pallbearers were Hubert Horchem, Leslie Tilley, Orville Horchem, Fred Amstutz, Chas. Stutzman and John Schoeppel. Interment was made in the Ransom Cemetery with John A. Aeby in charge. Ness Co. News, Sept. 19, 1940
