He was 73 years of age at the time of death. Funeral services will be conducted at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, Thursday at 2 o’clock the Rev Harold E Dueker officiating. Mrs Ernest Iwen will preside at the organ and Peace Lutheran Church will sing “Heaven Is My Home” and “Beautiful Savior.” Burial at Doon Interment will be at the Lutheran cemetery at Doon, Iowa with Lockwood Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Bearers will be Alvin Scherff, EArl Scherff, Ervin Schlotfeldt, Harry Scherff, Verdin Rath and Dale Rath. Henry Frederick Scherff, the son of John and Maria Scherff was born in Holstein, Iowa, on October 23, 1882. While he was still very young, he moved to a farm near Doon, Iowa, with his family. On the 26th of June, 1913, he married Miss Tillie Schemmell. To this union one son, Melvin, was born. Mrs Henry Scherff passed away a few days after Melvin was born. He remained on the farm near Doon for several years. In 1919 he married Sophia Ennenga who passed away in 1920. Moves to Minnesota In 1925 he moved to Ash Creek, Minnesota, and in 1928 he took up farming near Beaver Creek, Minnesota. Here he remained until 1949 when he moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. A short time after that his health began to fail and in 1954 he was taken to a convalescent home in Ashton, Iowa. Death came at 2 am September 26. A heart condition caused his death. Henry Scherff was baptized in Holstein Lutheran Church at Holstein, Iowa, in 1885. He was confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church, Rock Rapids, Iowa. Surviving him are his son, Melvin; two grandsons, one brother, Jake Scherff, Worthington, Minnesota; three sisters, (Margaret) Mrs Jake Heurtz of Oregon; (Mary) Mrs Charley Lohman, Sioux Falls, SD and (Anna) Mrs Rudolph Ruth, Pipestone, Minnesota.
