Blair Sr., 82, of 110 Arch St., Keene, died Aug. 1, 2006, at his home with his family by his side after a period of failing health. He was born in Jaffrey June 27, 1924, son of George and Rosa (Gobiel) Blair. He grew up in Jaffrey and attended local schools. Mr. Blair served honorably in the U.S. Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He was stationed on the John W. Weeks destroyer and was part of the naval presence in Tokyo Bay at the official signing of the Japanese surrender. He had worked for 30 years at the former MPB Corporation in Keene as an electrician. After retirement, he worked for several years as an electrician for Kulick’s Country Mall in Winchester. Mr. Blair was a charter member of the Jaffrey Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5613. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, clock repair and antiquing. He was an accomplished organist, learning to play by ear. He especially enjoyed his home and his family. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elinor (Maxwell) Blair of Keene; a son and daughter-in-law of Hinsdale; a daughter and son-in-law; four granddaughters; two great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters; two sisters; a sister-in-law; a brother-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, George Blair and Robert Blair, and two sisters, Alice Irvin and Beatrice Byam, all died earlier. Services will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St., Keene. Rev. Fay L. Gemmell will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Winchester foleyfuneralhome.com. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Mr. Blair’s memory to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 710 West 168th St., Third Floor, New York, N.Y. 10032.
