Horn were held Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Pastor Wendell Berggren officiated. Henry J. Horn, 72, well-known retired businessman and life-long resident of Glasco, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia, November 7, after a brief illness. Henry Julius Horn, son of Albert Louis Horn and Wanda Hirsch was born on a farm a few miles northwest of Glasco, Oct. 26, 1902. After his early schooling, Henry and his brother Ed attended the Sweeney Auto School in Kansas City, Mo. in 1921-22. After the completion of the course, the Horn brothers purchased the Beardmore Garage of Glasco in September 1924. The business venture was named Horn Brothers, owned by Edward G. and Henry J., and they continued in business until March 1971, after a successful operation for 47 years. He was united in marriage to Miss Alice Lee, Aug. 23, 1927, who preceded him in death Aug. 4, 1972. His brothers, Rudolph and William, also preceded him in death. Survivors include his brother, Edward G.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Henry was an ardent community worker and loyal booster for business and road development. He possessed many traits such as honesty, dependability, punctuality. He was endowed with wit and humor, admired and respected by his nieces and nephews. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, Chamber of Commerce, volunteer fire department of Glasco, and a member of the Beloit Elks Lodge. Hank, as known by his many friends, was a member of the Glasco Lions Club and had the distinction of being the only remaining active member of that organization that was originally chartered in January 1932. He was also a former mayor and city councilman, and was a Solomon township officer. Casketbearers were L.J. Nutland, Leland Chapin, Don Bieker, John Brock, Marvin Henning and Bill Tobald. Organist was Mrs. Virginia Halderson and singers were Mrs. Lorene Martin and Mrs. Carolyn Henning. Interment was in the Glasco cemetery. Dean Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
