Read More	OBITUARY Henry Newsom Megrath was born April 11th, 1854, near Lebanon, Iowa, died at his home in Keosauqua, Nov. 12th, 1928, at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 1 day. He was the eldest of three children born to Mr. and Mrs. J. Q. A. Megrath. One sister, Mary E. Moore, who survives him lives at Milton. Ed J., his younger brother, preceded him in death November 8th, 1922. When about 20 years of age, he united with the Lebanon Presbyterian church. He was married to Miss Maggie Duffeld, October 25th, 1876. They moved to a farm near Chequest church where he was active in church work, superintending and teaching in the Sabbath School for many years. They moved from this farm to Keosauqua, where they have ever since resided with the exception of one and one half years spent in Monrovia, Calif. While living there, they had their membership with the First Presbyterian church. Having never been blessed with a family they took Emery Jones when a small boy and cared for him as an own child until he grew to manhood. Mr. Megrath was a man of sterling character, always standing four square for the right. He was of a jovial disposition and enjoyed company. He never forgot the teachings and recepts of early childhood, never forgetting to keep the Sabbath Day holy. In later years he enjoyed reading the Bible and read it through every year. He was stricken with paralysis Sept. 25. From that time until his death, he was a patient sufferer, although confined to his bed. He retained his faculties until the last moments and realizing the end was near he expressed his wilingness to go. He leaves to mourn his departure, his beloved wife, a sister, one niece, three nephews and other relatives, beside a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2 o'clock on Thursday by Rev. Irvin Presbyterian pastor at Birmingham and Mt. Zion, assisted by Rev. Cox of Keosauqua. Mrs. Dr. Craig sang two beautiful solos "Going Down the Valley One by One," and "Some Day We'll Understand," which were greatly appreciated by the family.
