Description	:	Henry Pfeil Swartz, a Civil War Veteran, was born Feb. 21, 1829, in Union County, Pennsylvania, and died in Ida County, Ida Grove, Iowa, on March 1, 1904. Mr. Swartz moved to Clinton County where he resided until he enlisted. He was a member of the G.A.R. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery, Tipton, Iowa, where his first wife was buried. Mr. Swartz enlisted in Co. F, 10th Iowa Veteran Infantry, Sept. 22, 1864, served 8 months, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1865, at Washington, D. C. Mr. Swartz enlisted in Co. F, 10th Iowa Veteran Infantry, Sept. 22, 1864, served 8 months, and was honorably discharged on May 30, 1865, at Washington, D. C. Henry was the son of George Swartz and Anna Margaret Pfeil. He married Eliza Koch on Oct. 7, 1851, at Milton, Pa. His wife was born Oct. 1829, and died Oct. 5, 1884. They had 5 children, Ella 1857, George P. 1859, William J. 1861, Arthur L. 1863, & Burdette A. born 1867. Two additional children were deceased. The family came west in 1856, first settling in Clinton, Ia., where most of their children were born. They lived for about 21 years northeast of Tipton. After the war, he moved to Cedar County in 1869 where he lived until the spring of 1888 when he moved to Ida County, Iowa, where he resided ever since. He married Susannah Balliet Swartz of Pa. on Jan. 1, 1892 at Milton, Pa., his brother's widow then living at Milton PA., becoming the sharer of his joys and sorrows. Their home has been in Ida County, Iowa, except during the winter of 1901-02 when they spent a season with their son, Mr. William Swartz of Tipton.
