Description	:	Henry "Hank" Philip Gentrup, 77, Belle Fourche, SD died Feb 20. 2005 at his home. Visitation and a vigil were held Feb. 24 at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial was Feb 25 at St. Paul's Catholic Church with the Rev. Tim Hoag officiating. Burial with military honors followed at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Henry born April 23, 1927, to Conrad and Mary (Spenner) Gentrup on a farm six miles northwest of Crofton. He attended St. Rose Catholic School in Crofton. After graduation in 1941, he lived with his parents and helped with the farming. In those days most of the farmland work was done with horses and mules. In 1945, he was drafted into the Army Air Corps and was trained at Sheppard Field, TX. he then attended communication school at Scott Field, IL In 1946, he served as Ariways Commucnication Operatior in the South Pacific at Radio station NPN5 on Guam. In 1947, he was honorably discharged and returned home and continued helping on the farm for a season. He then decided to go to school at Boyles College in Omaha, NE. and further his communications skills. After graduation in December of 1948, he was hired by the chicago Burlington and Quincy railroad Co. as a telegrapher/operator and worked various stations throught out western NE and SD. In February of 1951, Hank met Barbara "Bobbee" Carner at Crawford. They married Nov. 20, 1951. Hank and Bobbee have two children Philip and Roxanne. After nine yers working for the CB&Q Railroad, hank transfterred to Chicago and NorthWestern Railroad Co. and continued the same line of work expanding into WY. As the railroads began closing their stations over the years, it was neccessary to move his family segen times. They resided in Crawford, Ardmore, Shoshoni, Whitewood, Mitchell, Chadron adn Belle Fourche. Hank held many job titles working in over 40 different offices throughout the three state system. Most of the jobs were in depots and terminals. Later he worked in the engineers' office and upon retirement was working in the managers office ini chadron. He recolls one of his busiest days was having 25 trains in an eight-hour shift from three different railroads. In 1989, Hank retired from the C&NW Railroad. he and Bobbee moved back to Belle Fourche and have been living there since. Survivors include his wife, Barbara "Bobbee" Gentrup; a son Philip Gentrup, Belle Fourche, SD and a daughter, Roxznne Johnson, Spearfish, SD; grandchildren Jill VanVeldhutzen, SiouxFalls, SD; Julie Gardner, Lead, SD, Matthew Johnson, Spearfish, SD, Amy Johnson, Lead, SD, Daniel Gentrup, Belle Fourche, SD, Meghan Gentrup, Belel Fourche, great grandchildren; Maxwell Brown, Jackson Gardner and Isabel VanVeldchuitzen; brothers, Hilary Gentrup,Forest Park GA, Cletus Gentrup, Hudson, CT, David Gentrup, Yankton, SD, Robert Gentrup, Hartington; sisters; Hiledgarde Schumacher, Marcella Lammers, and Angela Goedon, all of Crofton. Lucille Havermann, Arvada, CO' Irene Hames, Yankton, SD and Mary Ann Sorci, Gilroy, CA. He was preceded in death by his father Conrad Gentrup, mother Mary Spenner Gentrup and sister Evelyn Gentrup.
