Vincent Henry Ross 1835-1915 Henry Ross of Keyser's Ridge, Allegany Co, MD [now Garrett County] was thrown from his horse and seriously injured on Monday, 20 Sep 1858. His will was written the following day, Tuesday 21 Sep 1858. A newspaper account in the 27 Sep 1858 Baltimore Sun indicates he died a few hours after injury. However headstone shows 1 Oct 1858 as date of death. Exact date of death uncertain. The birth date of 23 Dec 1776 is calculated from age on headstone, 81y 9m 8d, and death on 1 Oct 1858. Garrett County was formed from western Allegany County in 1872 so many of the Ross family locations are now in Garrett County. Per information from the Garrett County Historical Society via email 2 Jul 2018: "In Garrett County Graves Book compiled by local DAR members Henry Ross 10-1-1858 is buried in Ross Cemetery east of Keyser's Ridge located behind the Menges Garage on Rt. 40.. Vol 1 states several unmarked graves. Vol 2 of the Graves Book shows shows Rachel Wiett 4-21-1852 wife of Henry buried there also. A footnote states John Wesley DeHaven was a grandson of Henry and Rachel Ross. John was the son of their daughter Susan Ross and Benjamin Franklin DeHaven." This burial place is close to the unincorporated area known as Keyser's Ridge located at the junction of Interstate 68, US Hwy 219 and the National Road US40. [Hope to add a GPS location sometime.]
