Description	:	He left the Netherlands, in 1866, with the third group of Vanderbeek's and settled in the Alto, Wisconsin area where he met and married Katrina Straks and started their family. They along with several of his brothers and sisters and their families and several other Dutch families migrated to the Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska vicinity about 1872. The 1875 Nebraska census indicates their daughter Dena was 3 years old and born in Nebraska. He Purchased 80 acres of prairie land, from the Burlington and Missouri railroad. They along with several of his brothers and sisters and their families and several other Dutch families migrated to the Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska vicinity about 1872. The 1875 Nebraska census indicates their daughter Dena was 3 years old and born in Nebraska. He Purchased 80 acres of prairie land, from the Burlington and Missouri railroad. The 80 acre farm is located at 120th street and Panama road, one and a half miles east of Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska. He built a dugout facing east near the present location of the farm buildings. They lived in the dugout, which was a hole in the ground 14 feet long, 10 feet wide and 7 feet deep, for many years until money was available to purchase lumber to build a house. He later purchased 80 acres adjoining the original 80 acres on the west and the farm owned by sister Jannetje and her husband William Prange after the death of her husband. The Prange farm was located across 120th street east of the original 80 acres. These farms have been in the Vanderbeek family ever since and are owned in 2013, by his great grandson Richard Vanderbeek (deceased)and his wife Irma. He was a life long Christian and an active member of the Holland Reformed Church, at Holland, Hickman, Lancaster County, Nebraska. Henry Vanderbeek is my great-grandfather on my mothers side of the family.
