Henson Rush was born in Virginia, June 17th, 1838 and died near Pitzer, Iowa, Jan. 23, 1910, at the age of 71 years, 7 months and 6 days. He was brought to Indiana in his infancy, and resided there until 7 years old, he then came to Iowa with his parents, settling in Mahaska county where he remained until the age of 17 years, when he came to Madison county and has since that time made Madison and Dallas counties his home.

He was married Aug 1, 1860, to Sarah Myers of Madison county. She lived just one year after, leaving him an infant son, Lawrence, who was killed by a runaway team at Winterset three years ago. He was united in the second marriage to Tama H. Landers of Sigourney, Iowa, Sept. 26, 1862. To this union eight children were born, three of whom have preceded him to the better world. He leaves a wife and five children: Mrs. C. Mozena of Adel, Mrs. C. A. Rush of Van Meter, Mrs. Fannie Farnham of Spencer, and Mesars. Leo and Orson Rush of this county, twenty one grandchildren and four great grandchildren, besides one sister, Mrs. T. J. Shultz of Madison county, and numerous nephews and nieces. ---------------------

Mr. Rush died at his home north of Pitzer last Sunday morning at the age of 81 years. The funeral services were held from Pitzer church conducted by Rev. ∼Henson Rush is the son of Joseph Rush & Sarah (Sewart ) Rush. He married Tamar Harriet Landers on Sep. 25, 1862 . In / Ia Tamar Harriet Landers is the daughter of Jonathan Landers and Tamar (Priest ) Landers

3- Sarah Rush was born on Aug. 6, 1868 in Sigourney, Ia Keokuk co. Ia. she died on Nov. 24, 1895. She was the daughter of Henson and Harriett Rush born about 1887 in Van Meter, Dallas County, Iowa . She married Olivar Patton, son of Joel and Sarah Patton, on Christmas day in Van Meter . Thier Daughter Loretta Orphus Patten, was born shortly after.. The marriage did not last however, and Olivar and Sarah divorced, Going their separate. Ways. After the break up, Oliver Patton reportedly moved to Kingsley and Sarah or Nellie as she was called moved to Sioux City, perhaps in search of excitement when the family broke up , Their daughter was adopted by farmer Henry Henrickson .It was in Sioux City where the 28-year old divorcee Nellie Patten met 23- year old William Royce and the two began a relationship, setting the stage for Nellie's tragic death . On the afternoon on Sunday Nov. 24, 1895 , in a jealous rage, William Royce shot his former lover Nellie Patton killing her with two shots THE SENTENCING,AUGUST 7 1896. On August 7, William Paschel Royce, age 24, baker of Woodbury County, was sentenced to 17 1/2 years in the penitentiary for second degree muder. Judge Scott M. Ladd gave the sentence, saying that was for every year that Royce had lived in liberty,should spend one in prison. The Washington Times August 7, 1906 Last edition Page six . PARDONED, JANUARY 22, 1904/ Goverrnor Cimmings has granted the application to grant absolute Pardon for William P. Royce of Sioux City who served four years of a sentence of the seventeen in the penitentiary at Anamosa. He was paroled in 1900- Cedar Rapids Gazette, Friday January 22, 1904 . Reparation Leads to Courtship. After being pardoned, Royce took a job as foreman at the Sioux City Gas and Electric Company. Having established himself and saved some money, he felt driven to seek out Nellie Patton's daughter who had been only eight or nine years old at the time of her mothers death. He wanted to apologize to her for robbing of her mother at such tender age/ After some time searching he found young Loretta at the home of her adpoted family, the Henrickson farm. The kind hearted Henry Henrickson allowed Royce to call on Loretta. Royce visted the farm often after that a romatic relationship develoed between them, despite the fact Royce had murdeded Lorett's mother in cold blood and that Loretta was 18 years- old to Williams's age 32. MARRIAGE,JULY 6, 1906. Ten years after killing Nellie Patton , W.P Royce, a forman at the Sioux City Gas and Electric was married to Miss Loretta Orpha (Patton) Henrickson, Pattons daughter on July 6, 1906 . They had one daughter born to them. Jean R Hicks - Born - July 21, 1923 Woodbury Co. Iowa . She died Sept 7, 1995 in Sioux City, Woodbury Co. Iowa She married George Henry Wiegand June 19, 1946 in Minnehaha South Dakota - On March 5, 1924, They divorced in Iowa she got custody of one daughter .
