Funeral service will be held at Langley this (Thursday) morning. Obituary next week. -- The Little River Monitor (Little River, Kansas), Thursday, 29 Aug 1912, page 1 OBITUARY -------------- HERBERT EDD BUCHANAN was born in Ness County, Kansas, September 9, 1887. When he became of age he married Miss Mable Boggs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Boggs, in September 1908. After only one year of happy married life his wife lay down the burden of life and answered the Heavenly Father's call on May 14, 1909. To Mr. and Mrs. Buchanan one child, Ula May, was born, but it was the will of our Father in Heaven that she too should join her mother in the great beyond. She died August 10, 1909. Mr. Buchanan never fully recovered health and strength after having an accident with a train three years ago. This, combined with prostration by heat, caused his death Tuesday night, August 27, 1912. Mr. Buchanan was converted in a camp-meeting near Langley in 1908, and while he never joined the Methodist church at that place he at one time expressed himself as willing to do so. He leaves his father, step-mother, two brothers, two sisters, and many friends to mourn his death. Death seemed ever knocking at the door of this little family, and while its record here was brief we trust that father and mother and babe are gathered together again in that land where sickness, sorrow, death and parting never come. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church in Langley at 11 o'clock Thursday morning by Rev. A. N. Smith of Ellsworth, and Rev. Dussair, of Marquette. The bereaved relatives have the sympathy of the entire community during their deep sorrow. -- The Little River Monitor (Little River, Kansas), Thursday, 5 Sep 1912, page 4 Young Man Struck by Train. ------------------------------------- Herbert Buchanan met with a serious accident at Langley on Tuesday evening. While crossing the Missouri Pacific track with a team and wagon, he was struck by a through freight train. He received several severe bruises, one arm was broken, and he was picked up unconscious. One of the horses was killed, the other badly injured, and the wagon was demolished.
