Description	:	William Herbert Foster was born May 23, 1887 in Page County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools in Page Co. At the age of 21 he went to South Dakota and took up a claim and lived there for five years. From there he went to Billings, Montana where he resided until the World War. He tried to enlist three times but was rejected each time on account of his health. He was finally drafted into Co K 157th Infantry, 20th Div, U.S. Army. He spent 11 months in the service, eight months in France. He was almost up... Read More	William Herbert Foster was born May 23, 1887 in Page County, Iowa. He attended the rural schools in Page Co. At the age of 21 he went to South Dakota and took up a claim and lived there for five years. From there he went to Billings, Montana where he resided until the World War. He tried to enlist three times but was rejected each time on account of his health. He was finally drafted into Co K 157th Infantry, 20th Div, U.S. Army. He spent 11 months in the service, eight months in France. He was almost up to the fighting line when the Armistice was signed. He returned on the U.S.S. Julia Luckenback from France. While in Billings he spent his summers as a guide in the Yellowstone Park for five years before the war and five years after war. While a young man he became a member of the New Market Masonic Lodge. He attained to the 32d degree while at Camp Kearney, San Diego, Cal. In 1921 he became a charter member of Al Bedoo Shrine Temple, Billings, Mont. He spent the last three years of his life in business in Salt Lake, Utah. The Disabled Veteran's Bureau, of Salt Lake City took charge of the remains. He died at age of 37 years, 9 months, 24 days at St Mark's Hospital Salt Lake City, Utah. He is survived by his father and mother, Mr and Mrs T.M. Foster of Clarinda, five sisters and four brothers, Mrs A.E. Abrahamson of Red Oak, Mrs C.C. Goff, Seattle, Wash, Mrs H.F. Graham, Des Moines, Mrs Roy W. Blankenship, Ida Grove, Mary of Chillicothe, Mo, Thurman of Eaton, Colorado, Homer of Clarinda, J. Bryan of Oregon City, Ore, and Dwight at home. One brother, Howard Davis preceeded him in death in 1903 by whose side he was buried. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church in New Market Sunday afternoon Dr Alfred T. Bishop of Clarinda officiating. The Masonic Order and the American Legion participated in the services. He was laid to rest in Memory Cemetery beside the grave of his brother Howard.
