On May 31, 1951 he married Patricia Carl in Platte, SD. During this union they had four children: Patsy, James, Pearl, and Timothy. He enjoyed inventing things to held his farm work and created the Cow Catch Carrier and Punch Press. He was the recipient for several farming awards. Herbert was survived by one son: James (Lois) Hoffman of Platte, SD and two daughters: Patsy (Robert) Cwach of Prescott Valley, AZ, and Pearl (Jeff) Feiok of Platte, SD; 6 grandchildren: Rob Cwach of Mitchell, SD, Clint (Ashley) Hoffman of St. Louis, MO., Cody (Heather) Hoffman of Reliance, SD, Tiffany (Bret) Maydew of Dell Rapids, SD, Clayton Hoffman of Brookings, SD, and Heath (Jamie) Feiok of Platte, SD; one great granddaughter, Chelsea Cwach of Platte, SD; 2 sisters: Elva (Lyle) League of Platte, SD, and Lola Duba of Kimball, SD; 2 sisters-in-law: Edris Hoffman of Platte, SD, and Ruby Hoffman of Platte, SD and former wife, Patricia (Carl) Hoffman of Huron, SD. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertha; one son, Timothy; three brothers: Ivan, Melvin, and James (Infancy); four sisters: Coral Leiferman, Belle Nash, Dorothy Sprague and Marian Johnson and one granddaughter, Heather Feiok.
