The death of a man like H. F. Parsons is a distinct loss to any community. He will be greatly missed here in Fairfield, where in spite of a quiet and unassuming disposition he has become known as a man of much more than common worth. Judged by the truest standards, Mr. Parsons has made the highest success of life. He has not amassed a great fortune, though he has kept his family in comfort. The conspicuous fact about him has been that he has been a marked integrity in his every act. Things base and unclean found no welcome in his presence; but every better quality felt encouragement from him in the whole tone and tenor of his life. When men met him they felt instinctively that here was a man who expected decency and honor from them. He was a man who went to church, not because he wished to be an important factor there, but because he loved to go. To be a part of the religious life there, without anything to bring him into prominence, was quite enough for him. It was religion in and for itself that he sought. So, he loved the house of God for its own sake,, and was constant in his attendance. Reality in everything rather than show was what most satisfied him. An upright, sincere, kindly life has gone from among us, and we do credit to ourselves by honoring his memory. Mr. Parsons leaves a wife and seven children, six daughters, and one son. All the children but Mrs. Sam Hyde still live at home. The loss to the family is beyond expression. No kinder man ever lived than he has been to his own. The friendship and sympathy of this community wil be theirs in full measure. The funeral service was held in the Congregational church Friday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Pearse Pinch (sic). The Modern Woodmen of America, of which order he was a member, attended in a body, and held their accustomed service at the grave. The body was followed to its last resting place by a large circle of realitves who came from a distance, and by a large concourse of his friends and neighbors.
