Description	:	Herbert H. Ogden, 92, of Ottumwa, died August 9, 2021 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born November 6, 1928 in Martinsburg to Gerald and Dorothy Richardson Ogden. He married Nellie Marie "Topsy" Rupe January 9, 1950 and she preceded him in death July 20, 2015. Ogden, 92, of Ottumwa, died August 9, 2021 at Hospice House in Ottumwa. He was born November 6, 1928 in Martinsburg to Gerald and Dorothy Richardson Ogden. He married Nellie Marie "Topsy" Rupe January 9, 1950 and she preceded him in death July 20, 2015. Serving in the US Army during World War II, Herb returned to Ottumwa and worked almost 40 years for the City of Ottumwa. He was a city forester, teaching many how to top out old trees and later worked in the city's paint shop, retiring in 1990. He was a member of O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion. Herb was involved in his kids' sporting events at Jefferson School and especially enjoyed coaching American Little League baseball. He enjoyed working in his yard and working with old cars completing body work for others. Herb and his wife Topsy were instrumental in the Working Man's Christmas, but his greatest joy was his family. Surviving are two sons, Jerry Mark Ogden and Herbie (Arlene) Ogden; son-in-law, Terry LaRue; 6 grandchildren, Kristi, Christopher, Nicole, Jerri Lynn, Jennifer and Joseph; 17 great grandchildren; and 5 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sherry LaRue; great-granddaughter, Kelsey Meinders; and a brother, Dean Ogden. Visitation will be open after 11 a.m. Thursday, August 12th at Reece Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, August 13th at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Hendred officiating. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
