Description	:	Herbert L. Ellingson, 91, a resident of Sterling House, died there Saturday, April 29, 2000, following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, by the Reverend Karen Beals. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home and after 9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and three sisters. Herbert was born February 9, 1909, in Des Moines, IA the son of Elias and Anna Mason Ellingson. He attended rural school near Norway, IA where he grew up. He married Dorothy Colton on June 3, 1938, in Iowa City, IA. Herbert was a supervisor at Quaker Oats, retiring from there after 43 years of service. He was an active member of Olivet Presbyterian Church for 60 years. He was the oldest surviving "Old Timers" retiree from Quaker Oats, a member of the Sportsman Club there and also a member of King's Sons. Herb was interested in everything and his favorite pastime was tinkering and inventing. He loved to travel, was a great nature lover and avid gardener. He is remembered as a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend who recently said he'd done and accomplished everything he had wanted. He was grateful for these accomplishments and his wonderful family. Memorial donations may be given to the Herbert and Dorothy Ellingson Endowment through Greater Cedar Rapids Foundation.
