Hill reported that his companion, Teddy Jordan, also of Georgetown, was found alive but exhausted on the bank a few hundred yards away. The men had been in an ouboard motorboat Wednesday night, it suddenly nosed under spilling them into the water. Sheriff Hill said he thought an inquest would be unnecessary. His investigation indicates, he said, that there was no foul play involved. It was reported that the men clung for a time to the boat and were swept several miles downstream. About 10 p.m., Mr. Jordan decided to swim ashore. Mr. Cribb elected to stay with the craft since he was a poor swimmer. B. D. Odum of Georgetown, for whom Jordan worked, became alarmed early Thursday morning when the men failed to return home, and began a search for them. Jordan was found weak from exposure, on the bank of the stream in a swamp, having been unable to get out for help. The body of Mr. Cribb was found several miles farther down stream, fastened to the swamped boat. Funeral services were held at the graveside in the Piney Forest cemetery, near Andrews, at 3 p.m., Friday. Officiating was Rev. Robert Stalvey of Conway. Burial was directed by the Mayer Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were six members of the national guard of Georgetown. Mr. Cribb was born December 9, 1921, a son of Mrs. Rebecca Ann Avant Cribb and the late William Henry Cribb. Mr. Cribb worked for some time with his father and was engaged for 10 months in construction work at Pearl Harbor, following the bombing there. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Cribb served overseas in the combat infantry in the European theater. For a short time prior to his entry in the armed forces and since his discharge he has worked in the paper mill of the International Paper Company plant here. Surviving besides his mother, of Georgetown, his widow, the former Miss Molly Mae Davis; a small daugher, Isla Ann, and two brothers, W. M. Cribb, of Georgetown, and Hille Cribb of Kingstree.
