Read More	Rail Crossing Accident Fatal to Herbert Cross Both He and His Companion Killed When Car Is Hit by Freight Train at Lexington Their car struck by an eastbound Union Pacific freight at Lexington early Monday morning, Herbert M. Cross, 59, and Chris Strauss, 47, both of Lexington, were instantly killed. The former lived here until 12 years ago, when he went to Lexington to become foreman of the city ice plant there. He spent the winter visiting with his mother, brother and sister here and had been at Lexington less than two weeks, when the fatal accident occurred. The coupe in which the two men were riding was carried two blocks by the locomotive, said to have been traveling about 25 miles an hour when it struck the car. Bodies of the two were mangled beyond recognition. Identification of the former Creighton man was made through a social security card in his clothing. His companion was identified by a driver's license. Born August 16, 1879 at Barnum, Wisc., Herbert M. Cross came to Nebraska when still a baby and lived here until his removal to Lexington. He leaves to mourn his death, his mother, Mrs. Nora Cross of Creighton; one brother, James Cross, also of Creighton; two sisters, Mrs. D.D. Wiseman of Orchard and Miss Myrtle Cross of Creighton; two nieces, one nephew and other relatives and friends. His father, who died Dec. 28, 1921 and a sister preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at the home of his mother with Rev. George B. Anderson, pastor of the Federated church, officiating. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman Burns, Wid Turner, Ed Meikle, E.J. Huigens, Elmer Collen, Dr. G.E. Printy.
