He was born on January 24, 1926 in Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Riley O. and Myrtle (Montgomery) Oliphant. On January 25, 1947 Owen and Nellie J. Taylor were married in Bentonville, Arkansas. Read More	Published Sept. 30, 2011 - Humboldt, KS H. Owen Oliphant, 85, of Chanute, Kansas, passed away Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kansas. He was born on January 24, 1926 in Humboldt, Kansas, the son of Riley O. and Myrtle (Montgomery) Oliphant. On January 25, 1947 Owen and Nellie J. Taylor were married in Bentonville, Arkansas. They made their home in the Humboldt/Chanute area. Owen was employed by Monarch Cement Company for 42 years, retiring in 1988. Owen enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a very talented musician, playing guitar, harmonica and singing. He most enjoyed playing music with his family and friends. Owen was an avid KU and Chiefs sports fan. He was a man of faith and attended Assembly of God Church. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nellie of the home; one sister, Lillian Playton of Scottsdale, AZ; two daughters, Jeanie Taylor of Fredonia, KS, and Alta Harvey and husband Tom of Caney, KS; six sons, Lynn Oliphant and wife Patrie of Chanute, KS, S.W. Oliphant of Chanute, KS, Tom Oliphant and wife Diana of Erie, KS, Bill Oliphant and wife Maria of Chanute, KS, Stacy Oliphant of Paola, KS, and Ron Oliphant and wife Pam of Chanute, KS; twelve grandchildren, Gina Shanks, Tammy and Clint Jones, Shaunisty, Chelsea, and Emily Oliphant, Andrea and Brad Oliphant, Jordan Bowers, and Cara, Chris, and Matt Oliphant; and fourteen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two grandchildren, Yolanda Oliphant and Jesse Oliphant. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at the Faith Assembly of God Church in Humboldt. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Humboldt, KS. Memorials in his name may be made to Faith Assembly of God Church and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Humboldt Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
