Lesch, one of the best known men of the county died suddenly at his farm home early Monday morning. The family had attended a picnic the day before and Mr. Lesch seemed in his usual health. Arising at 4:30 the following morning, he died without a minute's warning. Obituary Herman August Lesch was born July 7, 1879, on a farm near Floyd, Iowa, the eldest son of August and Bertha Lesch, and passed away at his home July 19, 1937, at the age of 58 years. He attended school at the Cedar Valley seminary at Osage and had some work at Iowa State college at Ames. Later he taught in the Floyd county schools. On Dec. 20, 1905, he married Julia Jeanette Popham, of Rockford. Of their family of four boys, Leroy, Byron and Donald are at home, and Rogers is married and residing nearby. Mr. Lesch's business interests have been varied, including managing the Farmers' elevator at Rudd; a clothing store at Lawler, and farming. In co-operative movements of all kinds he took a deep interest and his special hobby was friendly discussions. he was very fond of reading and his last letter to the public was published in the Open Forum of last Sunday's Des Moines Register. He was the finest kind of husband and father, and was considered a friend and neighbor of the highest type. He is survived by his immediate family; also three sisters, Mrs. Ed Shaffer, of Rapid City, S. D.; Mrs. Ben Johnson, of Floyd; Mrs. Roy Woolworth, of near Stacyville; and one brother, Fred Lesch, of Osage. A brother, Arthur, preceded him in death. Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday afternoon at the Universalist church in Osage by the Rev. Edna P. Brunner, of Waterloo, and burial was made in the Lesch lot in the Osage cemetery.
