Brule county Sheriff Virgil Haley and Chamberlain, who investigated the shooting, said Neitzel's body was found by an area farmer, Frank Odean, about 3 p.m. Wednesday. The locked car was parked on a side road a mile east of Kimball. Sheriff Haley said other motorists had observed the parked car as early as mid-morning Wednesday, but none had stopped. All doors were locked from the inside, Haley said, and a 12-gauge shotgun was lying beside the body. Neitzel reportedly shot himself through the jaw. Brule County Coroner Ben Pankonin ruled the shooting self-inflicted and said no inquest would be held. Neitzel was born October 31, 1917, at Tulare, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Neitzel. He lived his entire life in the Tulare area where he farmed until being employed by the Armour Packing Plant in Huron in May, 1960. Survivors include his mother, Minnie Neitzel, Tulare; two brothers, Max, Tulare and Robert, Los Angeles, Calf.; two sisters, Mrs. Jordon (Dorothy) Zillmer, Oconomowoc, Wis., and Mrs. Henry (Minnie) Groth, Steen, Minn.; four nieces and four nephews. His father died in 1960.
