Description	:	Herman Barthold Bohling, son of John Henry and Ann Bohling was born on a farm south of Fontanelle, Iowa, on November 28th, 1890 and passed away at a hospital in Oakland, California May 9th 1957 at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 11 days. Herman attended the rural school in the community and assisted his father with the farming. As he grew older he worked for others in the community as a farm hand. Read More	Herman Barthold Bohling, son of John Henry and Ann Bohling was born on a farm south of Fontanelle, Iowa, on November 28th, 1890 and passed away at a hospital in Oakland, California May 9th 1957 at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 11 days. Herman attended the rural school in the community and assisted his father with the farming. As he grew older he worked for others in the community as a farm hand. In June of 1899 his father passed away. The family then moved to Fontanelle to a home they purchased, which is still the Bohling home. In 1904 during the pastorate of Rev. A. H. Rusk, Herman united with the Methodist church in Fontanelle and retained his membership with the local church until his passing. He was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Wilhelmina Albessor, March 12, 1914 at the home of his mother, Mrs. Anna Bohling in Fontanelle. They were at home on the Remine farm 7 miles south of Fontanelle, later moving to the Ed Knorr farm. Later they purchased a farm near Williamson where Herman farmed and did general trucking. Six children were born to bless this home. In February of 1932 Mrs. Bohling passed away, leaving him to care for the family. In 1935 the family moved to Fontanelle where Herman continued in the trucking business until 1942, after which he went to Nebraska where he was employed. Later he went to Idaho and then to California where he made his home until his passing. Herman was united in marriage to Lillian Parrott in 1946, and they made their home in Oakland, California. He has been in failing health for the past several years. Mr. Bohling leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Lillian, the six children, Mrs. Dorothea Emily Van Vleet, Arthur August and Henry John all of Fontanelle, Mrs. Lillian Rose Ridout of Massena, Leo Vern of Chula Vista, California and Mrs. Erma May Thomas of San Diego, California, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, a brother George, a sister Dorothea Cafferty and a nephew, George Arthur Cafferty.
