Description	:	"The Newton Daily News", Newton, Jasper County, Iowa Friday, April 15, 1955 Herman Brooks, 91 Dies at Grinnell, Services Sunday Herman Brooks, 91, a resident of Jasper County since 1892, died at 1 a.m. today at the Community Hospital in Grinnell. Mr. Brooks suffered a stroke recently and was taken to the Grinnell hospital last night. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday at the Kellogg Lutheran Church with the Rev. Carlton Rohr, pastor of the church officiating. Burial will be in the Kellogg Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call at the Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home in Newton until Sunday noon. Survivors include three sons, Michael of Grinnell, and Ernest and Albert of Kellogg, four daughters, Mrs. Anna Kahle of Kearney, Neb., Mrs. Louis Kling of Newton, Mrs. John Balmer of Kellogg and Mrs. Edward Ehler of Kellogg, 22 grandchildren and 40 great grandchildren. Mr. Brooks was a member of the Kellogg Lutheran Church. Mr. Brooks was born Feb. 1, 1864 in Darmstadt, Germany, coming to the United States and settling in Des Moines at the age of 14. He moved to a farm northeast of Kellogg in 1892. Mr. Brooks retired from farming 35 years ago. Mr. Brooks' wife, the former Katherine Kinzel died in 1944.
