Read More	"Newton Daily News", Newton, Jasper County, Iowa Tuesday, February 22, 1944 Mrs. Brooks Dies Today Former Resident of Austria Dies in Kellogg; Rites Thursday (Special to the Daily News) Kellogg - Mrs. Katherine Brooks, 76 year old former resident of Austria, succumbed at her home early this morning at 4:30 o'clock, following a lingering illness. She was born Feb. 28, 1867 in Austria, the only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Michael Kinzel. She came to the United States at the age of 10 years and lived in Kellogg for a while before moving to Des Moines. She married Herman Brooks, who survives, on Aug. 19, 1886 in Des Moines and later moved back to Kellogg. They loved on a farm northeast of here until moving to town a few years ago. In addition to her husband she is survived by seven children, 3 sons, Michael Brooks of Grinnell, Ernest and Albert Brooks of Kellogg; 4 daughters, Mrs. Louis Kling, Mrs. John Balmer, and Mrs. Edward Ehler of Kellogg, and Mrs. Louis Kahle of Kearney, Neb.; 21 grandchildren, four of whom are in the service; three great grandchildren, and one nephew, Fred Diehm of Newton. The funeral services will be held at the Kellogg Lutheran Church on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with the Rev. P. G. Bauer in charge.
