He was born at Achlum, Netherlands, on February 12, 1855. He was 90 years, 1 month and 21 days of age at the time of his death. Read More	Early Resident Here Dies At Advanced Age H. Van Zandbergen Reaches Age Of 90 Years Herman Van Zandbergen, well known Alton retired farmer, passed away at his home in Alton, Monday morning. He was born at Achlum, Netherlands, on February 12, 1855. He was 90 years, 1 month and 21 days of age at the time of his death. On May 17, 1885, he was married to Susan Vander Pol and on April 27, 1888, the family left for the United States, arriving in Alton on May 12 of the same year. They retired twenty-five years ago and bought a home in Alton. Mrs. Van Zandbergen passed away on December 18, 1935, and from then on he made his home with Clara, Mrs. Gerrit Scholten. Of their nine children, the second, Otto, died on the boat coming from Holland and was buried in New York. Children surviving are Edward Van Zandbergen of Hospers; Bertha, Mrs. Martin Dykstra, Alton; Otto of Sioux City; John of Alton; Nick of Grand Rapids, Mich.; Arie of Orange City; Gertrude, Mrs. John Hyink, Grand Rapids, Mich,; and Clara, Mrs; Gerrit Scholten of Alton. There are twenty-three grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Mr. Van Zandbergen had been in exceptionally good health for a man of his years, until last Wednesday when he was taken ill. For many years he had been almost stone deaf, but bore the infirmity with remarkable fortitude, happy with his family and friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 1:30 at his home and at two o'clock at the local Reformed church, of which he was a member. Rev. Docter of Hospers officiated. Here from a distance for the services were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Van Zandbergen and son Robert, Mr. and Mrs. John Hyink, all of Grand Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Van Zandbergen and children of Sioux City, Lt.
