Description	:	Herman Frederick Grueber was born Aug. 17, 1862, to Henry C. W. Grueber and his wife, Anna von Fintel in Schwalingen, Anet, Solton Province, Hanover, Germany. He was baptized as a child and later instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Neuenkirchen in that community. In 1879, when he was 17, the family came to America and settled in Nemaha county (sic), Neb. They became members of St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) of Hickory Grove near Auburn. He was baptized as a child and later instructed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the Neuenkirchen in that community. In 1879, when he was 17, the family came to America and settled in Nemaha county (sic), Neb. They became members of St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) of Hickory Grove near Auburn. In 1883 he was united in marriage to Catherine (sic) Holtermann. To this union four sons and four daughters were born, all of whom are living, except Mrs. Maria Hoops who passed away in 1955. Four years later in 1887, H.F. Grueber and family came to this community. In 1918 he retired and moved to town where he continued to do carpenter work for a number of years. In 1910 Mr. Grueber and family became members of St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) of Byron. He was active in church work, serving several terms on the council and as foreman when the church was enlarged and remodeled in 1924. In 1928 his wife preceded him in death. In 1930 he was married to Mrs. Matilda (sic) Freitag (sic) Dankenbring who passed away in 1947. Since that time he had made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Hestermann here in Byron. About two weeks before his death he fell and was injured slightly but due to old age and infirmity he never recovered. He passed away Sept. 18, 1957, at the age of 95 years, one month and one day. He leaves to mourn his passing two half brothers, Pastor August Grueber of Wichita, Kans., and Henry Grueber of Los Angeles, Calif.; four sons, John, Alvin and Walter of Byron and Edwin of Lincoln; three daughters, Hannah Hoops, Mrs. Anna Hestermann and Mrs. Ernestine Mohrmann of Byron; 22 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; several step children and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic), Byron. Pastor Dennis D. Mueller was in charge. Burial was made in St. Paul's Lutheran cemetery (sic). Pallbearers were John, Alvin, Walter and Edwin Grueber, Fred Mohrmann and Wm. Hestermann. Memorials given will go to the Blue Valley Lutheran Home at Hebron and the Martin Luther Home and school at Beatrice.
