Description	:	Herman Settje Jr., 88, of Creston, Nebraska, died Saturday, December 5, 2015, at the Columbus Community Hospital. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 12, 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Creston with Rev. Jim Ernst officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, Creston, with military honors by the Creston American Legion Pieper Post #306 Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 – 7:30 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. at the church with a family prayer service at 10:45 A.M. Herman “Ham” Settje, Jr., was born September 11, 1927, on the family farm near Creston, Nebraska, to Herman and Ida (Meyer) Settje, Sr. He attended Lonely Valley, a 1 room country school, and graduated from Creston High School. On March 25, 1946, Herman entered the U.S. Army. He served until he was honorably discharged on April 15, 1948, after attaining a rank of Corporal. He returned to the Creston area where he began farming. Herman also was a truck driver for several companies and later worked at Behlen Manufacturing. On March 1, 1986, Herman was united in marriage to Twila Stanley at his home in Creston. Herman enjoyed going hunting, fishing, and spending holidays with family and friends. He was a member of the Creston American Legion where he helped with the honor guard for many years. Herman is survived by: Daughters: Rita Moore of Altoona, IA Sandra Stephen of Ankeny, IA Carroll Sue Wilder of Alton, MO Son: William “Billy” Settje of Des Moines, IA Grandchildren: Chris (Meghan), Tina, Taylor, and Kayla Settje, Heather (Johnie) Ollin, Amber (John) Biga all of the Des Moines, IA area, Robert (Angie) Koeneman of Omaha, NE, and SPC Larry (Nicole) Welch, 3rd, of Killeen, TX Great Grandchildren: Devin Settje, Danielle Lottman, Maddux and Maverick Biga, AJ, EJ, and Miranda Ollin, Collin and Kaylee Koeneman, Katina and Joaquin Settje, Camerron McKee, and Arianna Welch Brother: Stanley Settje of Leigh, NE Herman was preceded in death by: Parents: Herman & Ida Settje, Sr. Wife: Twila Settje Brothers: Clarence, Wilber, Virgil, and Gene Settje Sisters: Ermma Fenhouse and Donna Schultz Great Great Grandson: Easton Lottman
