On June 21, 1931, Anna & Herman Hanke were married at the 1st Mennonite Church in Newton, KS, where they were members since 1932. Read More	Herman Hanke, was born Jan 24, 1905, near Goessel, KS, & passed into eternal rest on Mar 2, 1987, in Newton, KS. On June 21, 1931, Anna & Herman Hanke were married at the 1st Mennonite Church in Newton, KS, where they were members since 1932. In 1932, Anna & Herman's 1st son, Eugene, was born prematurely and died an hour after birth. In 1934, Frances Arlene was born; followed by James Duane in 1936 and Herman Jr. [Junior] in 1940. Anna was working for SW Bell Tel Co as an operator when she met Herman and after they married, she continued to work there until she gave birth to their first son Eugene. In 1959, Anna & Herman moved to Rose Hill, KS, where they operated an egg farm for Berry's Hatchery until 1961. They then moved to Solomon, KS, and operated yet another of Berry's egg farms for 4 years at which time it was sold. Herman was hired on at the Solomon School District as custodian & Anna as a cook. They worked there together until Herman's retirement in 1970, at which time they moved back to their Newton home. On Nov 2, 1986, due to ill health, Herman was moved to Friendly Acres Home in east Newton & on Nov 24, Anna also moved there to be close to her beloved husband. Herman's health steadily declined until Mar 2, 1987, when he was promoted his heavenly home. They would have celebrated their 56th anniversay the next June. He leaves to mourn a daughter Frances (Sam) Krueger of Fort Worth, TX, 2 sons James (Harriet) of Halstead, Herman Jr. (Diane) of Minden, NE; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchilden; many brothers and sisters; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins & friends. Herman didn't own a car until about 1950, but they always made certain their children had a ride to church with next door neighbor Ben Unruh's, who were also members of 1st Menno Church.
