This was brought to the mind of the people in this community, when it became known that Herman Schroeder, well known young farmer, had passed away Monday afternoon, May 21, at the Wyatt hospital. Schroeder Passed Away After Serious Illness In the midst of life we are in death. This was brought to the mind of the people in this community, when it became known that Herman Schroeder, well known young farmer, had passed away Monday afternoon, May 21, at the Wyatt hospital. The entire community was depressed and saddened by his death. Mr. Schroeder accidentally scratched his finger on a barb wire, about four weeks previous to his death. Not feeling much alarmed over the slight injury in the beginning, he found later that it became more inflamed and began to be very painful. Consulting his physician, it was found that blood poison had set in, in the very worst nature. Everything possible that could be done, by kind hands and professional skill, was done to prolong his life, but of no avail to better his condition and finally death came as a relief to his worldly suffering. Mr. Schroeder was an exemplary young man of excellent character and habits, quiet and unassuming, straight forward and honest. He was loved and respected by all and commanded the respect and friendship of the many who have known him all his life and have associated with him. He was ambitious and industrious and his untimely death is sad because of the fact that he leaves a family of small children that need the guidance and counsel of a kind father continuously for some years. One could not help but admire of man of his disposition, genial way and pleasant manners and his death is a great shock, not only to his immediate relatives but to his many, many friends in the community who will grieve and sorrow because of his untimely death. The large attendance at the funeral services, which was the largest ever held in Manning, and the floral offerings which were many and beautiful, marked the respect and esteem which the deceased enjoyed by the many friends in this community. Herman Schroeder was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schroeder, born August 3rd, 1886, in Washington Township, Carroll County, Iowa. Living in that community all his life, working on the farm of his parents, being helpful to them wherever he could, he grew up to be a man of sturdiness and noble character. February 28, 1907, he was united in happy matrimony with Miss Emilie Rowedder, to which union six children were born, of which two, Alice and Arlo, died in infancy. After their marriage the couple located on a farm north of town and have resided there ever since. Those who are left to mourn his untimely departure are: his bereaved wife and four minor children: Louis age 14, Merlin age 10, Kenneth 6, and Norman 3 years old; also his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schroeder; one brother, Elmer at home; and six sisters, Lilly (Mrs. Albert Joens), Amanda (Mrs. John Frahm), Laura (Mrs. Walter Joens), Lena (Mrs. John Joens), Elsie (Mrs. Alfred Rix), and Edna at home; and many other relatives and friends. The funeral services were held Thursday, May 24, from the Lutheran church, the Reverend J. M. Ansorge officiating. Interment was made at the Hayes Township Cemetery. Pall bearers were: John N. Martens, George Ohde, Otto Hinners, Emil Martens, Chas. Thiedeman, and Louis Tank. The Monitor joins the community in extending to the bereaved relatives a sincere sympathy in the time of sorrow and grief.
