Herman was born to the late John J. and Lydia Stucky on Aug. 4, 1924, in McPherson, Kansas. Herman was baptized on July 21, 1940 at the Eden Mennonite Church in Moundridge, Kan. He and his family moved to South Dakota in 1944. Herman joined the Salem Mennonite (South) Church in 1944 where he remained a member for the rest of his life. Herman participated in Voluntary Service in Roseburg, Ore., during the Second World War. He married Frances Bernice Preheim in 1948 and enjoyed 65 years of married life until her death in 2014. They spent many years farming near the Freeman community. He was a resourceful man, often making tools or equipment when needed. They moved to Freeman in 1984 where he helped his son Janver in the business of rewinding electric motors. Herman enjoyed traveling. He and Bernice took many trips, first by car, then by bus to much of the United Sates. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice; by his parents John J. and Lydia Stucky; one sister, Mildred Albrecht; and one brother, Weldon Stucky. Herman is survived by two children, Jackie (David) Stucky-Strom of Rapid City, S.D. and Janver (Karen) Stucky of Freeman; and two grandchildren, Colby Stucky of Aurora, Colo., and Doran Stucky of Ewing, N.J.; two brothers, Eldon Stucky of Yankton S.D. and Eugene Stucky of Freeman; and one sister, Lucille Preheim of Freeman.
