Herman Thieman, the only son of Peter Thieman and his wife, Caroline, nee Thimgan, was born in Prussia, Germany, on Dec. 23, 1864. In his early infancy he was brought to Christ through the sacred act of baptism. At the age of three months, he, with his parents, came to this country and settled in the state of Illinois, where they lived for four years. In April, 1868, they emigrated to Nebraska, coming in a covered wagon, and settled on a farm near South Bend, Cass county, Nebr., where Mr. Thieman resided until the time of his death. Upon coming to this country they first became members of Immanuel Lutheran church at Louisville, where he was confirmed by the sainted Pastor Catenhusen, at the age of fourteen years. When this congregation, Trinity Lutheran, of Murdock, was organized, he became a member here, where he attended services regularly up to the time of his death. In 1905 he entered into the holy estate of matrimony with Miss Ida Blum, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Blum of South Bend, Nebr. This union was blessed with three children, Carrie, wife of Mr. Paul Reinke, Elda and Margaret. Although being afflicted with heart trouble, the deceased seemingly enjoyed the best of health up to the last moment. Heart failure was the cause of his sudden and unexpected death. He died at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 2 days. His mortal remains were laid to rest in Trinity Lutheran cemetery on Friday afternoon, Nov. 28, 1930, his pastor officiating. In the service held in the church prior to the committal the pastor spoke words of comfort to the bereaved, basing his remarks on Psalm 46, 10a: "Be silent, and know that I am God." The mixed quartet of the congregation, composed of Walter Thimgan, Louise Thimgan, Ella Gakemeier, and Herman Kupke, sang "Nearer My God to Thee", My Jesus as Thou Wilt," and Asleep in Jesus." He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, three children, and one grandson. Also four sisters, Mrs. Henry Gakemeier, Mrs. Albert Zierott, Mrs. William Lau Sr., and Mrs. August Wendt Sr. May the God of all grace comfort you in this hour of your bereavement.
