Description	:	Herman L. Haines, 79, well-known North Strabane township farmer, died Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1940, at his home near Chartiers (Hill) Presbyterian church. He had been in failing health the last three years and had been bedfast the last six weeks. Mr. Haines was born in North Strabane township, August 26, 1860, in the same home in which he died and spent all his life there except for 15 years when he was in Iowa. Haines, 79, well-known North Strabane township farmer, died Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1940, at his home near Chartiers (Hill) Presbyterian church. He had been in failing health the last three years and had been bedfast the last six weeks. Mr. Haines was born in North Strabane township, August 26, 1860, in the same home in which he died and spent all his life there except for 15 years when he was in Iowa. He was a son of the late Israel B. and Catherine McMillen Haines. His mother was a granddaughter of the Rev. John McMillen, one of the founders of Washington and Jefferson college. In 1884 Mr. Haines married Anna Mary Cochran, who died December 26, 1939. He was a member of Chartiers (Hill) Presbyterian church and had served as a trustee of the church, and he was a member of North Strabane Grange. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Clifford Winnette, at home; three grandchildren; one sister, Miss Sue M. Haines, of Akron, Colo., and one nephew Earl Haines, of Akron, Colo. The body is at the Hinton Funeral Home where friends will be received until Thursday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p. m. Thursday in Hill Church in charge of the pastor, the Rev.
