Description	:	Mrs. Hettie M. Keniston, a resident of this city for almost 60 years, passed away at 7:15 Tuesday morning at the Hawarden hospital. Mrs. Keniston had been in failing health for a long time and when her condition became greatly aggravated she was removed to the hospital April 1. She submitted to an operation Saturday, April 4, but it was only to bring relief to her, as it was known her condition was such that she could not recover. Funeral services will be held from the home at 1:30 and from the Associated church at 2 o'clock Friday... Read More	Mrs. Hettie M. Keniston, a resident of this city for almost 60 years, passed away at 7:15 Tuesday morning at the Hawarden hospital. Mrs. Keniston had been in failing health for a long time and when her condition became greatly aggravated she was removed to the hospital April 1. She submitted to an operation Saturday, April 4, but it was only to bring relief to her, as it was known her condition was such that she could not recover. Funeral services will be held from the home at 1:30 and from the Associated church at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. Rev. Clarence W. Hanscom, the pastor, will be in charge. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery. Hester (Hettie) May Elder was born near Cleveland, Ohio, June 9, 1866, and passed away April 14, 1942, having attained the age of 75 years, 10 months and 5 days. At an early age she came to Iowa with her parents by the covered wagon route, locating near Le Mars. It was here that she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage with Chas. W. Keniston Nov. 30, 1882, at Seney. Four sons were born to this union, but only one son, Harry E., survives. The two older sons, Alvin and Freddie, died within a week of each other when less than five years of age during the diphtheria epidemic in 1887. Her youngest son, Arthur, grew to young manhood but passed away Feb. 19, 1924 in New York City. Arthur's wife, Mrs. Verna Keniston, lives in Sioux Falls, and has kept in close touch with the deceased through the passing years, even through her last illness. Mrs. Keniston's husband died Aug. 3, 1936. She is survived also by one sister, Mrs. M.L. Coker, of Mandan, N.D. Mrs. Keniston came to Hawarden when it was but a small town and she, together with her husband, took a keen interest in the civic, social and church affairs of this place. She was of a kind disposition and performed many acts of kindness to those less fortunate than she. She was united with the Congregational church Jan. 8, 1905, and took an active part in the work in the church and its organizations. She was one of the organizers of the Entre Nous and her kindly and timely advice to the charter members of this club proved a great value. In her later life, she gave up all her social activities but she retained her membership in the Entre Nous and never lost interest in this organization. The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 4/16/1942
