This land is still in her family and is owned by a grandson, Carl Ward (1980). She married Walter B. Ward on Mar 10, 1880. Together they had five children, Earl R., who married Myrtle Saunders, Vernon B, who married Lucy Barrett, Iva, who married Frank Appleman, and Ophelia and Julia, who never married. Hester Ruddell Ward, was born in Blansville, Illinois, November 13, 1846 and died at her home in Skidmore, May 6, 1942. She was married to Walter ward, March 10, 1880, and became the mother of five children. Two daughters, Iva and Ophelia and her husband preceded her in death. Two sons, Earl R. and Vernon B., live on farms west of Skidmore and one daughter, Julia, lives in Kansas City. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive her. Miss Lora Stultz has been her constant companion during the last eight years. Mrs. Ward had a delightful philosophy of life which remained with her to the last and won for her many friends. Her sweet Christian spirit endeared her not only to her family but to her many friends. In spite of her ninety-five years, Mrs. Ward was young in spirit and will be greatly missed by the family and community. Services will be held at the Burr Oak church Friday afternoon.
