Apr. 26, 1917 Huron and community was deeply shocked Sunday evening at the death of Hilan J Hoskins, which occured Sunday evening at 8:40 o;clock at his home at 1323 second street. The shock to Mr. Hoskins friends was the greater because of the suddenness of the bereavment. Saturday morning, Mr Hoskins was on the street apparently in his usual good health. Hilan H Hoskins was born July 22, 1838, in Banner County, Ohio, where he resided until he was 21 years of age when he moved to Iowa. Shortly after coming to Iowa the the civil war broke out and Mr. Hoskins joined the army in the cause of the north, serving through the war and being with Sherman on his march to the sea. On August 23, Mr. Hoskins was united in marriage to Miss Nancy George at Wheatland, Iowa. In 1884 Mr. Hoskins moved to South Dakota, locating on a homestead in Hand County. About 1900 he came to Huron and has since made this city his home. The deceased is survived by two children, Mrs Maud Hannum of this city, and Clinton D Hoskins of Rockham, S.D. He is also survived by a brother, Newton Hoskins of Ohio. The loss of Mr. Hoskins is not only local but state wide. He was prominent in G.A.R. work, serving as quartermaster in the soldiers home in Hot Springs for three years. He was a member of the G.A.R. and the Elks Lodge in this city. The Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home and interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery.
