(Wentworth) Meriwether, age 91, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 20, 1922 on Ryker's Ridge in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph Allen & Lydia Ann (Callis) Wentworth, both of whom preceded her in death. Hilda attended the Vineyard School in Craig Township. She had spent most of her life in Switzerland County, Indiana working for a short time as a Secretary for the Lane Bryant Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Wentworth) Meriwether, age 91, of Vevay, Indiana, entered this life on August 20, 1922 on Ryker's Ridge in Jefferson County, Indiana, the daughter of Joseph Allen & Lydia Ann (Callis) Wentworth, both of whom preceded her in death. Hilda attended the Vineyard School in Craig Township. She had spent most of her life in Switzerland County, Indiana working for a short time as a Secretary for the Lane Bryant Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. During World War II, Hilda worked in a factory repairing & rubberizing gas tanks. On October 5, 1945 in Vevay, Indiana, Hilda was united in marriage to Wilson Meriwether and they spent over 50 years together until his death on January 15, 1998. This marriage was blessed with 2 sons. Hilda enjoyed being a homemaker and was a member of the Ebenezer Wesleyan Church in Moorefield, Indiana. She will be remembered for her love of being an avid reader, cooking & socializing with family & friends on the telephone. Hilda was a devoted mother, grandmother & sister. Hilda died at 10:28 am, Monday, September 16, 2013, at her sons residence in Vevay, Indiana. Hilda will be missed by her sons: Donnie L. Meriwether & his wife: Louella of Vevay, IN; George A. Meriwether & his wife: Vilma of Spring Valley, CA; her granddaughters: Rosemary Meriwether & Catherine Meriwether; her sister: Jennie Dean Brooks of Allensville, IN; her brothers: Eugene Wentworth & his wife: Patti of Memphis, TN & Clarence Wentworth of New Albany, IN; her sister-in-law: Sue Webb of Kewanna, IN; her several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph Allen & Lydia Ann (Callis) Wentworth; her husband: Wilson Meriwether; her sisters: Nel Gene Bolton, Rosemary Griswold & Helena "Babe" McKay; her brothers: Charles Wentworth & Rev. Melvin Wentworth. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, September 27, 2013, at 11:00 am, by Pastor David Dicken & Rev. Jim Kessen, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043. Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery, Vevay, Indiana. Friends may call 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Thursday, September 26, 2013, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home 208 Ferry Street Vevay, Indiana 47043. Memorial contributions may be made to East Enterprise Wesleyan Church or to the Ebenezer Wesleyan Holiness Church. Cards are available at the funeral home.
