Her husband, Allie Brisby, who was at work in the DuPont plant at the time, attributed the tragedy to ill health. Mrs. Brisby had suffered from a nervous breakdown and had been ill for nearly a year. Their four children, ranging in age from one to seven years, had just returned from Sunday school a short time before they heard the shot. After seeing their mother crumpled on the floor they ran to the home of a neighbor, Mrs. Bud Storms, crying that something was wrong with their mother but they didn't know what to do. Mrs. Storms hurried to the Brisby home and lifted the injured woman into her bed before she noticed the blood from the small gunshot wound. Mrs. Storms said that Mrs. Brisby lived for about fifteen minutes. Sheriff Harry V. D. Maas was called about 10 o'clock. A Keokuk physician, Deputy Coroner H. A. Brunat and Keokuk police also responded to calls. No inquest was necessary, Mr. Brunet said today. The Brisby home is on the north side of the settlement near the Argyle gravel road. Hilda Fowler was born at Montrose, February 19, 1906, and was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fowler. She was united in marriage to Allie Brisby at Havana, Ill., December 8, 1929. Five years before her marriage, Mrs. Brisby was engaged as a teacher in rural schools, teaching for two years at the Valley school, for two years at the Connable school and for a year at Vincennes. Always considerate of her family and friends before her illness, she will be long remembered for her neighborly, deeds. Surviving are her parents, who live at Argyle; her husband and their four children, Mary Lou, 7; Jack Lee, 5; Eugene, 3, and Ruby, one-year-old. She is also survived by a brother, Lloyd Fowler, of Argyle; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Petty, of Keokuk, and many other more distant relatives. The body was removed to the Cunningham-Ryan Funeral Home at Keokuk where it will remain until time for the funeral services which will be held at the Vincennes church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock.
