Weiland Many hearts were saddened on Wednesday when it was known that Mrs. Hilka widow of the late John R. Weiland, lovingly known as Grandma Weiland had passed to her heavenly home, a pioneer of this community, loved and esteemed, faithful through the years in the home, the church and community, and at the time of her going the oldest citizen of this place, where she has lived for more than 50 years. She has been a lifelong member of the Reformed Church and faithful in every detail of the worship and the churches' activities. She was always present at the services and social meetings of the church whenever possible. She will greatly be missed by her family and friends. Hilka Siebens Weiland was born at Cirkwerin, Germany March 15, 1840 were she resided until coming to America. March 3, 1866, she was united in marriage to John R. Weiland, emigrating to America with her husband in 1889. They settled on a farm four miles north of Bristow, which was their home for 40 years, where their son, Ralph, now resides. Five children blessed their union, two of whom have preceded their parents in death. Simon who passed away in 1905 and Flora, Mrs. Carl Ehlers, who died in 1910. The living are Rachel, Mrs. John Petersen, Dickens, Iowa; Ralph, Bristow, with whom she was at home since the death of her husband on April 19, 1929, and Jane, Mrs. Delos Walsh, also Bristow. Her daughters with her son cared for her most lovingly during her short illness, due to a fall she sustained about two weeks prior to her passing. Mr. and Mrs. Weiland observed their 50th wedding anniversary in their home in Bristow in 1916 having moved to town in 1910 and again in 1926 a fitting celebration on their 60th anniversary was conducted at the Reformed Church, when more than 100 relatives and close friends were present as a mark of esteem. A long and useful life has ended, but Christian influence will be felt through the years. The surviving children, the twenty three grandchildren and twenty three great grandchildren will cherish the memory of one who pointed to right living. She passe peacefully to the better home on August 12, 1930. Funeral Services on Saturday from the Reformed Church was conducted by Rev. Acheman of Kelsey at 2:00 o'clock. Beautiful flowers were in evidence and interment was in the family plot at Oak Hill
