[Fullerton.] ----------------------- From a 1908 Nance County Nebraska newspaper clipping file, transcribed by Linda Berney: Hiram Furney was born in Carroll county, Maryland, Oct. 13th, 1830, and rested from his labors March 2nd, 1908, aged 77 years, 4 months and 15 days. Of his father's family of seven children, six sons and one daughter, it is not certainly known the number living. Mr. Furney was married to Miss Katherine Ohler in Maryland, Feb. 10, 1857 and about 45 years ago left the place of his childhood and early life, came to Illinois, thence to Iowa, and then to California. About 19 years ago, in the month of March, he brought his family and settled in Nance county. Six children were born in the home of Mr. Furney, three of whom have passed over the river to the life beyond. The wife and faithful companion after eleven years of suffering, six years of which she was bedfast, entered the rest that remaineth for the people of God, five years ago the 3rd of Sept. Three children of this home still survive, two sons and one daughter, Frank and Charles Furney and Mrs. Mary Peters, all of this community. The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church at 10:30, March 4th, interment in the Fullerton cemetery.
