Description	:	Henry Miles Hopkins, 77, former Villisca business man, was instantly killed early Saturday when the car he was driving hit the railing of a bridge and plunged down an embarkment near Ismay, Montana, where Mr. Hopkins had been residing for the last twenty years. Read More	Henry Miles Hopkins, 77, former Villisca business man, was instantly killed early Saturday when the car he was driving hit the railing of a bridge and plunged down an embarkment near Ismay, Montana, where Mr. Hopkins had been residing for the last twenty years. The accident occurred when the car struck a spot of soft dirt in the road and swerved out of the driving control. A man who was accompanying Mr. Hopkins on the trip, jumped from the car as it started to plunge , escaping without injury and he succeeded in getting aid to the scene of the wreck a few minutes after the accident. Mr. Hopkins was dead when help first reached him and it is thought that his death was instantaneous, caused by an injury to the head. His body arrived in Villisca Wednesday evening and was taken to the Fessler & Sutphen funeral chapel here. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, in the chapel with Rev. Arthur Mortenson, pastor of the local Presbyterian Church in charge. Pall bearers were Frank Taylor, Chas Fryer, W. J. Oviatt, T. F. Woodward, W. J. Edenfield, and Dr. G. T. Rumbaugh. Burial was in the Villisca Cemetery. Mr. Hopkins was born February 7, 1857 in Granville, Illinois. He attended the public schools in Wheaton, Illinois, and later studied at Hillsdale College, Michigan. On December 20, 1881, he was married to Mary M. Nutten, who preceded him in death in May, 1926. They moved to Villisca to make their home in 1895 and resided here until 1914 when they moved to Ismay, Montana. Mr. Hopkins operated a coal and feed business in Villisca for many years and was active in civic enterprises during his years of residence here. He is survived by two daughters and two sons, who are, Mrs. Beth Brown and Mrs. Irma Taught, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, A. L. Hopkins of Munice, Indiana and Carl N. Hopkins of Ismay, Montana. One daughter, Mrs. Edith Sawyer of Villisca preceded him in death in November 1932. Villisca Review, Friday, April 13, 1934, page 1 & 8 Bibliographic Information: Harrison, Ella W. Mary M. Nutten graduated from Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, Mich., in the class of 1877, received the degree of B. A. She took the degree of M. A. in 1880. ****notice that the article lists a brother - Albert. However, it doesn't mention the "child of H. M. Hopkins" who is buried in the Villisca Cemetery. My guess would be that the child died in infancy.
