Bernard Dawson of Red Oak officiated. Mr. Connell died Monday, March 14, at Murphy Memorial Hospital, Red Oak, after a brief illness. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Johns Connell, hd was born January 8, 1905 at Climax Spring, Missouri, and was married in 1928 to Velma Gilliland, who survives. He was born on January 8, 1905, in Climax Springs, Missouri to Ruth M Clipson, age 28, and John Connell, age 33.. He married Velma Agnes Gilleland on July 13, 1929 in Sidney, Iowa. Homer and his wife, Velma, operated a restaurant in Blair, Nebraska, for one year after their marriage, then moved to Emerson, Iowa in 1930. Homer operated a blacksmith and welding shop in Emerson until his death in 1977. They had four children during their marriage. He died on March 14, 1977, at the age of 72. Also surviving are a son, Homer Edward, Jr. of Red Oak, three grandchildren and one great grandchild; two sister, Mrs. Fritz Stidd and Mrs. E. E. Ashby, both of Seal Beach California; two brothers, Chet of Compton, California, and Bill of Glenwood. Mr. Connell had been an Emerson resident since 1918. He had continued to operate the Connell Blacksmith and Welding Shop which was founded by his father. For many years, he was a member of the Emerson Volunteer Fire Department and Emerson Community Club. He had also served a short time as Town Marshal. Interment was in the Emerson Cemetery.
